LBGT Rep
Role
The role of the LBGT rep is like any good sandwich: threefold.
1) College welfare: hold weekly Welfare hours in the JCR Office, providing a non-judgemental, confidential and relaxed welfare service. Email to arrange private meeting if the weekly times do not suit.
2) College events: uphold sense of LBGT community at Girton by organising college-based events. This can include formals, undergrounds in the bar etc.
3) Uni-wide link: communicates university LGBT events organised by CUSU LGBT to JCR, often via email. Includes distribution of [no definition] magazine.
Girton LBGT
Keeping up to date with Girton LBGT events is easy. Sign up to the mailing list (completely confidential) at https://lists.cam.ac.uk/mailman/listinfo/girton-lbgt. It is possible to send emails to this list (which have to be approved by the LBGT Rep), however, this obviously sacrifices your confidentiality. If you would like to send a general message to the mailing list without exposing your identity, please write CONFIDENTIAL in the subject and I will amend it necessarily. Send to girton-lbgt@lists.cam.ac.uk
Do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any ideas for college events. Next term will hopefully see some film nights, a formal with another college, and a cake competition...
CUSU LGBT
Signing up to the Girton mailing list is the main way of receiving news about CUSU LGBT.
CUSU LGBT is an organisation that supports students throughout the whole university, providing an extra level of support for LGBT students at Cambridge.
CUSU LGBT events stretch from welfare to socials to campaigns, including social events of all shapes and sizes. Their aim is simple: to enable different members of the LGBT community to meet up and share views. CUSU LGBT sponsor the weekly club night “Rendezvous” on Monday evenings at The Cow (Corn Exchange Street, CB2 3QF), infamous amongst Girtonians. For something a bit quieter, weekly socials such as the Women’s Coffee meetings in Clowns, provide a more relaxed environment in which to chat and meet up.
To keep up to date with the events and campaigns supported by CUSU LGBT, check their website http://www.lgbt.cusu.cam.ac.uk/ and sign up to the email list [LISTINGS] http://www.lgbt.cusu.cam.ac.uk/mailing-lists/. Queer Cambridge is also great for advertising LGBT events and groups in Cambridge. See http://www.queercambridge.co.uk/
Parenting Scheme
CUSU LGBT run a LGBT Parenting Scheme for Freshers. It is a fantastic way to make new friends and meet people who can answer any questions you might have about LGBT (and indeed non-LGBT) things in Cambridge. Visit www.lgbt.cusu.cam.ac.uk/freshers to find out more and sign up.
[no definition]
[no definition] is CUSU LGBT’s termly magazine. [no definition] will be distributed through college reps in JCRs and MCRs and made available online. If you would prefer to have [no definition] sent to you, visit http://www.lgbt.cusu.cam.ac.uk/magazine/. [no definition] are always looking to expand their team; check the website for details of positions.
NB. Don't be confused about the LBGT/LGBT ambiguity. The Girton JCR constitution has remained unchanged, and so the LGBT community at Girton is simply known as LBGT.
