10. Message from Girton Christian Union

Hey guys!

We hope you’re having a (relatively) good exam term, and also that you enjoyed and were encouraged by the choccie treats and the bible verse put into your pigeon holes.

We just wanted to draw your attention to the prayer box at the front of the porters’ lodge. If there are any niggling problems that you’re facing, do feel free to put a little note into the box (on any request you have!) and we will pray for it as soon as possible, and hope that God will work in your situation. It can be anonymous, or include details if you want us to be in touch with you (still being confidential with your request).

Our email addresses are located below if you have a query, or don’t wish to use the box for whatever reason.

André (aw626) and Kirsten (kb522)

JCR Round Up – 18th May 2014

By | Roundup | No Comments

JCR Committee Weekly RoundUp

  1. Free cake today!
  2. Free Squash
  3. Free Table Tennis
  4. What would you like to build on the College site?
  5. Are you a Cambridge Blue?
  6. Sports Noticeboard
  7. Refurbishment this summer
  8. Student satisfaction survey

1. Free cake today!

Today (Sunday) the JCR Equalities Officers will be in the JCR at 3.30pm with free cake! Come along to meet the team and chat about future events, any suggestions you might have, or just to eat cake and escape the library.

2. Free Squash

The JCR Committee have bought two squash rackets and squash balls (blue for beginners). Sign them out from the Plodge along with the squash court keys. Ensure they are returned and in good condition.

If you sign them out, and something goes missing or is damaged beyond normal wear-and-tear, the JCR Committee will not replace it. We will expect you to pay for replacements.

3. Free Table Tennis

We have also bought FOUR table tennis bats, and balls – sign them out from the Plodge and get permission to use the table tennis table. The table is located next to the stairs by the catering office/ vending machines. You may wheel the table to outside Ash Court and play.

When you are done, ensure the table is returned to its original place and equipment returned to the Plodge. Please respect this. If you don’t return the balls then no-one will get to play.

4. What would you like to build on the College site?

College have been discussing what to build on the College site in the future for quite some time now. So far the main things suggested are:

– All day café to double up as a bar – includes a large open space to ‘hang out’ like a lot of other colleges have.

– Large space/ auditorium for 50-150 people, for performances and rehearsals. Possibly a new build, or possibly remodelling Old Hall.

– An all weather sports pitch suitable for hockey, tennis, netball and 5-a-side.

– Resurfacing the netball and tennis courts.

– Any new accommodation to be built with en-suite (to ensure they are future proof and also useful for conferences etc) and well equipped gyp rooms/ kitchens.

– More study spaces, for quiet individual work, group work, staffed study areas.

These are just suggestions, and they may not be feasible or actually built.

Do you have any another ideas?

This is the final opportunity for students to suggest to College what they would like to be built. Please send me any ideas in the next few days.

Contact: jcr-president@girton.cam.ac.uk

5. Are you a Cambridge Blue?

The Girton Blues Honours Book needs updating with Girtonians who have received either a blue or half blue in the past 3 years. If you know a blue, or are one yourself, please let us know soon!

Contact: jcr-ents@girton.cam.ac.uk

6. Sports Noticeboard

Following a JCR Committee proposal, College have provisionally approved for a sports noticeboard to go up outside Hall. Hopefully look out for it soon!

7. Refurbishment this summer

Following JCR Committee input, Woodlands court will be updated and baths turned to showers. Woodlands and chapel exteriors to be painted. Grange – kitchens and bathrooms to be redecorated. Computer rooms to be painted. Plans for next summer – Old and Hospital wing.

8. Student Satisfaction Survey

If there were a comment you wanted to make about the college facilities and services, what would it be? You can tell the JCR Committee and College what is good and bad about living in Girton! If we don’t know what’s broke, we can’t suggest to College how to fix it, nor can we tell them what’s good and should be done again in the future.

http://www2.girton.cam.ac.uk/anuksurvey/

Any other comments to make from the survey, about the Bar, Canteen, Library or anything else then please do send the JCR Curator an email (this applies all year round too!)

All JCR information will still be circulated by email, but follow us on Facebook for regular updates and comments: https://www.facebook.com/GirtonJCR.
